How I’m spending time with my family?

Weekly Thoughts #108: How I’m spending time with my family?

It’s been about 2 weeks since I wrote one of these, so let’s catch up. Let’s do some much needed thinking and venting. Lord knows these last few months have been tough on my heart. Family seems to always be the disconnection. But last week I saw a different side of family that brought nothing but comfort.

So last Saturday was the cousins weekend. A cookout in the middle of a pandemic may not be ideal, but I had a good time. It was in a state that I haven’t seen in 3 or 4 years. It was in Tarboro, North Carolina. I spent there half of my childhood there. Tarboro is where I first witnessed black ownership. When my uncle and his wife had a market called the Exum family market. I was too young to understand, but now, looking back, it was my first sight of my family owning a small business.

I spent last Friday night packing my bags. I had a semi packed bag ready to go throughout the week but waited for the last few hours to finish putting everything in my bag. It was only a 2-day trip so I know I needed little. Just the normal clothes and grooming kit. I had a terrible sleep schedule. I went to bed at 1 in the morning and woke up at 3:30 in the morning. I had to be dressed and ready to go by 4:45. By 4:45, I was ready to go.

So ever since my operation, I have been having the bladder of a toddler. So it was only a 3-hour trip there, but we kept stopping because I had to pee so much. I felt bad. I didn’t even want to drink anything. Once there, I got to see one of my favorite uncles. Always been one of my favorites because he’s just cool. I don’t know how to explain him. He’s funny and musical. He used to rap and now he’s a dj. He’s always amazed to see me pursue music. So I send him my spoken words when I drop them.

The focal point of the trip was the family cookout. Which went well. I am not the biggest group person. But I was comfortable and not talking as low as I would usually do over the years. One of my cousins was the highlight with his crazy jokes. Another highlight was this gas station called Big Jims. I know a gas station I wrote that correctly. They sell food. They had this cheese biscuit that melts in your mouth. The biscuit was huge. The sausage had a big thick slice of cheese in between it. So good. I think I want another one just thinking about it. That was last weekend’s fun. Some pictures of the food below. Don’t scroll if your vegetarian or like pigs.

This weekend’s highlight was making spaghetti for the first time with my pops. He’s always baked his spaghetti, and it’s one of my favorite meals. So on the way back from our day trip, I randomly asked will he show me how to make it so I can make it on my own. So he set aside some time after work and we made it yesterday and here’s the result down below. It was delicious, by the way.

That’s pretty much it for these weekly thoughts, but continue to stream. Let me talk my shit. The streams continue to rise while I plan out the next single. Thinking by the end of the month or next month or so, I’ll have more funds to properly promote the next one. I kinda want a new set of photos centered on this piece. Like some dark moody shots to symbolize the dark emotions in this piece. Still a working progress. We’ll talk more about this next week. See you then.
